HikeforDays was never intended to make a bunch of money. And that’s a good thing, because it doesn’t. That being said, I am extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed to my adventures by buying me a burrito at some point. I am truly humbled by this support, and thank each and every one of you for enabling my burrito addiction and covering the cost of keeping this website free of advertisements. I hate ads, and take pride in this tiny corner of the internet where one mustn’t dodge pop-ups or see a bunch of weird AI imagery. Mark my words, there will never be ads on HFD.
While ads can be an essential source of revenue for other websites that I enjoy, I am privileged to not need them here. However, if you feel compelled to support this passion project of mine, aside from direct donations, the best way to help me out is to make purchases through my affiliate links, listed below and on my “Gear” pages.
For those unfamiliar with this marketing scheme, each link is uniquely associated with HFD, so that anything bought within a few days of you using it will result in me earning a small commission (5% is typical). It doesn’t cost you a thing, but gives me a sliver of the pie.
So how does this work?
If you were planning to buy something from REI, for example, then return to this page and click on the REI link before making your purchase, as you would otherwise. A computer somewhere will track that HFD sent you to REI, and I’ll get a commission. Simple as that.
REI is obviously related, but purchases through Amazon, evil as they may be, are also affiliate eligible, so you can support HFD even when buying laundry detergent or Crocs for your dog. And Garage Grown Gear is an amazing place to buy gear from many of the most popular ultralight manufacturers, including Zpacks, Gossamer Gear, Katabatic Gear, Hyperlite Mountain Gear, CNOC, Sambob, and Nitecore. Please consider supporting this small business whenever possible. They’re good people.
Thanks for listening, and thanks again for all the support over the years. It means a lot to have you on my team. Here are the links:
- REI: Useful for backpacking gear, apparel, and shoes.
- Amazon: A good source of just about everything.
- Garage Grown Gear: One-stop shopping for a ton of the smallest ultralight brands.
- Eastside Sports: A legendary local gear shop in Bishop, CA.
- Backcountry: Similar to REI.
- Hyperlite Mountain Gear: Makers of solid UL backpacks and shelters.
- Alpenventures Unguided: Self-guided hiking tours in Europe and South America.
- FarOut Guides: The most useful navigational tool, created specifically for thru-hiking.
- Platypus: Makers of my favorite water filter and soft bottles.
- Therm-a-Rest: Some of the best and most popular sleeping pads available.
- MSR: Stoves mostly, such as the ever-popular Pocket Rocket.

Affiliate Disclosure: In my ongoing quest to avoid living comfortably and working in an office, I have incorporated affiliate links on this website where appropriate. If you make a purchase through these links, I might earn a few bucks at no additional cost to you. That's pretty cool, huh? You'll be like a modern-day Robin Hood, taking money from "The Man" and giving it to this hungry dirtbag. Burritos for all!
