Deep Wild

Friendly folk,

For the first time in history, someone wants to print something that I’ve written.  It is humbling, but I am super juiced about it.  My essay “Until They Are Not” describing an exceptionally difficult day from my 2015 thru-hike, deep in the Glacier Peak Wilderness along the Washington portion of the Pacific Crest Trail, will be included in the inaugural issue of Deep Wild:  Writings rom the Backcountry.  I have Spice Rack (from the TMB/Haute Route) to thank for turning me on to this new journal, which aims to “provide a forum for the best writing we can find that conjures the experiences, observations, and insights of backcountry journeys.”  It’s a story I’ve told before on my PCT blog, but never with more sentence fragments and annoying repetition.

Deep Wild is on track to be published in August and a kickstarter campaign is live to ensure that this can happen.  $20 gets you a physical copy that I will gladly sign if you find me in person, instantly making it a collectible worth much more than your initial investment.  It will probably the smartest decision that you will ever make, just sayin’ 🙂

Please don’t give/buy anything solely to support me.  I’m doing just fine, but do check out Deep Wild if you are at all interested in backcountry writing, similar to what I post here.  I can’t vouch for the other included entries, but I can say with confidence that mine is at least mediocre.  Deep Wild might be weak sauce, they let me in after all, but it might be pure gold.  Time will tell…
