SHR Update #1: Made it to Red’s

Howdy y’all,

Just a quick update from the Sierra High Route. SpiceRack and I have spent the past week pushing south from Twin Lakes through incredibly challenging terrain. In short, the rewards have been tremendous. Today we made it to Red’s Meadow and are surrounded by other hikers, dirt and wide smiles the defining features. Two days ago we saw no one but each other. In Spice’s words, “The CDT ain’t got nothing on this.”

Tomorrow, we keep hiking south towards our next resupply in Bishop. It’s going to be hot, and it’s going to be hard. It is also going to totally rule. I can’t wait, and fortunately don’t have to.

If you want to follow our progress, head over to the Where Am I? page and click on the map link.

And here are some sweet photos that Spice has taken of our first week:

Spiller Canyon on day one. Heading to Stanton Pass, the saddle on the left.
First camp
Looking to the days ahead from the outlet of Solider Lake.
Classic talus hopping on the way up to Sky Pilot Col.
Climbing on day 3. “It isn’t as steep as it looks,” has become our motto.
Day 4 camp, shortly before the mosquitos made us set up the tent.
Getting groovy on the way to the second Twin Island Lake.
Scoping out the best route up numerous waterfalls to Glacier Pass. Fun stuff.
Glacier Lake and the glacier between Banner Peak and Mount Ritter.

Thanks for the photos, Spice!
